BELMONT, N.C. -- Zach Puentes and
Caden Day reached double figures in kills and Belmont Abbey hit .307 as a team, leading to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-21) victory over Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Wednesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in league play and clinch a berth in the conference tournament next month. The Lions fall to 9-11, 4-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Puentes hit .304 with 11 kills against four errors in 23 attempts. Day also similar numbers with one more error to hit. 261.
- Day served two aces with Puentes adding another. TJ Neville had the Crusaders's four ace of the night.
- Jibriel Elhaddad connected at a .667 clip, with six kills and no errors in nine attempts. Leighton Ritchie also did not have error with four kills in nine attempts (.444).
- Joseph Morris tallied 34 assists, two kills and three blocks.
- Alejandro Leon led the defensive effort with seven digs.
- The .307 hitting percentage was the 11th over .300 this season.
- The first set was tight with 20 ties and three lead changes, but the Crusaders led wire-to-wire in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey plays the first of four straight road games on Saturday, when it travels to Erskine.
- The matches are the last away from home this year.
