BELMONT, N.C. -- Xavier Miller scored his only goal of the game with 1:38 remaining to break an 8-8 tie and giving Belmont Abbey a 9-8 victory over North Greenville in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse action Tuesday night. The game-winning goal came with just seven seconds left on the shot clock.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 8-3 overall and remain undefeated in league play at 4-0. The Trailblazers fall to 7-5, 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game featured six ties and six league changes.Belmont Abbey had a two-goal lead on two occasions, while NGU lead by one at 1-0, 5-4 and 7-6.
- Brendan Boschi led the Crusaders with four points on two goals and two assists, while Nate Lorenzo also tallied a pair of goals.
- Jacob Chandler, Garren Berkman, Blayze Becker and Jake Tobin joined Miller with a single strike.
- The Abbey won 40 ground balls to the Trailblazers' 24 and had five less turnovers.
- Both teams won 10 faceoffs.
- After Belmont Abbey took the lead, they forced two turnovers when North Greenville had a chance to tie. The Crusaders ran out the final 26 seconds for the win.
- The contest was a rematch of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game.
