BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis was locked in a close battle with preseason co-favorite Erskine Friday afternoon at the Reidy Tennis Center.
The Crusaders nearly rallied from being 3-0 down but it was the Flying Fleet who came away with the 4-3 victory.
Belmont Abbey was swept in doubles play but
Hanley Riner,
Mackenzie McCarthy and
Leilany Sanchez all earned three-set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles. McCarthy and Sanchez both rallied to win after dropping the first set.
With Friday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 10-5 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolins play. Erskine is now 5-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.
