BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey pounded out 24 hits and scored 24 runs Wednesday, leading the Crusaders to a sweep of Shaw 10-2 and 14-0 in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Crusader Field. The first games ended in six innings, while the second lasted just five.
With the wins, The Abbey improves to 11-15, while the Bears fall to 1-16.
THE OPENER
- Alayna Patrick led off the game with a home run and added two more hits later in the contest. She drove in a second run with an RBI single in the sixth that provided the run-rule decision.
- Lily Garnett-Brown and Trinity Wall also recorded three hits, with Wall driving in a season-high four runs. She homered to lead off the second, doubled in a pair in the third and delivered an RBI single in the fourth.
- Belmont Abbey started each of its six at-bats with a hit.
- The Crusaders totaled five extra-base hits.
- Sienna Garcia started and then re-entered in relief to improve to 6-8. She allowed just two hits and an unearned run in 5.0 innings pitched, striking out nine.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Belmont Abbey scored 11 runs in the first inning, 10 of which came before the first out.
- Patrick went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIS, while Hannah Jane Gard drove in four and scored three times during her 3-for-3 day.
- Erin Gill threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and two walks against two strikeouts. She improved to 2-2 on the season.
