ANDERSON, S.C. — Triniti Cassidy and Emerson Sheyda scored three goals each as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team opened the season at Anderson Saturday night at Spero Field.

Despite the effort it was the Trojans who came away with the 13-9 victory.

Saturday's game was the season opener for the Crusaders, who are 0-1. Anderson is now 2-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Anderson got on the board in the first quarter with a pair of goals before Sheyda got the Abbey on the board with 5:53 left in the period. Sheyda scored on an assist from Abbey McCarthy.
• Olivia Ritchie added a goal late in the quarter off an assist from Addyson Greenspan.
• Triniti Cassidy scored two of her three goals in the second quarter while Abbey McCarthy scored the other goal.
• Sheyda added two more goals in the third quarter.
• Kimberleigh Hansberry tallied her first career goal and assist in the contest.
• Summer Eddinger finished with 10 saves in goal for the Abbey.
• The Crusaders finished with 13 ground balls and five caused turnovers.

• Belmont Abbey heads on the road to face Shorter in the Conference Carolinas opener at 4 p.m. Saturday.
• The game against Shepherd previously scheduled for February 13 has been moved to March 7.
