ROME, Ga. — Abbey McCarty matched a career-high with four goals while
Triniti Cassidy scored four goals as well as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with a 23-1 victory over Shorter Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.
Five different Crusaders also had two goals each, including
Alena Clough and
Amanda Borg as they scored their first goals of their collegiate career.
Summer Eddinger got the win in goal for Belmont Abbey as she made one save.
Belmont Abbey is now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Shorter is now 0-4 overall, 0-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders got off to a fast start with Cassidy scoring just 40 seconds in.
- Taylor Tobin added the second goal of the game followed by three straight from McCarthy.
- Belmont Abbey added three goals later in the quarter with goals from Borg, Cassidy and Emerson Sheyda.
- Three of Belmont Abbey's six goals in the second quarter came with a woman-up advantage.
- The Crusaders added two more goals to start the second half before Shorter's lone goal in the third quarter.
- Belmont Abbey closed the game with seven unanswered goals, including the first career goal for Macy Lashells.
- Abba Walsh, Yianna Giannoulis and Katelyn Miller were the others who had two goals for the Crusaders.
- Caitlyn Marone finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Cassidy had 13 draw controls for the Crusaders and also had a pair of caused turnovers.
- Belmont Abbey had 43 shots compared to just four for Shorter.
