BELMONT, N.C. — Addyson Greenspan and
Emerson Sheyda scored two goals each as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team battled No. 14 Wingate Saturday evening at Alumni Field.
Despite the scoring effort, it was the Bulldogs who came away with the 14-6 win over the Crusaders.
With Saturday's result, Wingate is now 3-1 while Belmont Abbey is now 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey had to withstand an early surge from Wingate after being outshot 12-2 in the first 15 minutes.
- The Crusaders converted both shots taken in the first quarter with goals from Abbey McCarthy and Greenspan.
- Both teams exchanged goals in the second quarter with the Crusaders' first three goals coming off of free position shots.
- Kaitlyn Miller got her goal with 37 seconds left in the first half to tie the game at 6-6 before Wingate scored in the final second to take a 7-6 halftime lead.
- The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half with eight goals, six in the fourth quarter.
- The Crusaders were held to just four shots in the second half.
- Summer Eddinger made eight saves in goal.
- Caitlyn Marone led the Crusaders with three caused turnovers and six ground balls.

- The Crusaders continue the home stand with a nonconference contest against Shepherd next Saturday.
