FERRUM, Va. -- Belmont Abbey pounded out 19 hits, but Ferrum used a ninth-inning rally to earn a split of Saturday's Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader. The Crusaders won the opener 4-1, before falling 10-9 in the nightcap.
Joe Whitaker has four hits in the contest, driving in two runs and scoring twice in the two games. The Abbey now stands 11-5 overall and 10-2 in league play, while Ferrum sits at 4-8, 2-7
GAME 1
- Seven different players registered a hit with Connor Paul singling twice.
- The Crusaders fell behind 1-0 but plated four in the sixth. Whitaker doubled in the tying run before Jake Bidoglio followed with a three-run homer.
- Spencer Sipro earned the win to move to 3-0. He scattered seven hits and allowed just one run over 6.0 innings. He struck out five.
- Sawyer Osborne earned his second save, retiring all three batters in the seventh.
GAME 2
- Whitaker and Michael Fattore had three hits each, tallying a double and two singles. Fattore drove in a pair, one in the third to make the score 3-0 and another to close the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth.
- Jake Bidoglio also drove in a pair of runs, hitting a sacrifice fly in the sixth to break a 7-7 tie and single for a 9-8 lead in the eighth.
- Issac Williams (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in the ninth inning. He allowed one hit and walk against three batters.

- Belmont Abbey hosts Emory & Henry Tuesday in non-conference action.
- The teams recently switched site in the home-and-home series, sending the Crusaders to the Wasps later in the month.
