FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- Trinity Cassidy and
Abbey McCarthy scored six goals during a 7-0 run to start the second half, lifting Belmont Abbey to a 15-7 victory over Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon. The scoring barrage turned a 5-4 haltime lead into a 12-4 advantage with just 11:09 left in the contest.
The win improves the Crusaders to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Lions fall to 1-4, 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cassidy tied her career-high with seven goals, adding two ground balls and two turnovers. She also won three draw controls and took a team-high 10 shots (nine on goal).
- Katelyn Miller, Emerson Sheyda and McCarthy scored two goals each. Miller added four assists for six points.
- Belmont Abbey never trailed in the contest opening leads of 2-0 and 5-1 before the Lions closed out the second quarter with three straight goals.
- But Cassidy and McCarthy found the net two minutes apart in the first 4:49 of the second half, then added the next five goals -- three by Cassidy.
- Summer Eddinger made eight saves in goals, while grabbing a team-high six ground balls.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Emmanuel 27-22, including 22-13 on goal. It also forced 14 Lion turnovers, while committing only six.
