BELMONT, N.C. — Kallie Lusk and
Leigha Dennison led the way scoring wise for the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team as the Crusaders pulled away early for an 87-48 victory over Erskine Monday evening at the Wheeler Center.
The game was made up after being previously postponed from Jan. 31 due to inclement weather.
Lusk finished with a game-high 19 points, 17 of which came in the first half, while Dennison had 15 points.
Ava Fulkerson had nine points off the bench while
Sofia McNabb and
Brielle George finished with eight points each. George also added a game-high 14 rebounds.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Erskine is 2-21 overall and 1-16 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lusk and Dennison accounted for all seven field goals in the first quarter for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey scored the first 14 points of the second quarter and held the Fleet scoreless for the first six minutes of the second quarter.
- The Crusaders followed that up with another 14-0 run to start the second with Dennison, George and McNabb accounting for the field goals during the run.
- Belmont Abbey started the fourth quarter with a 15-3 run to further solidify the win.
- The Crusaders went 20-of-24 from the free throw line. It is the fifth time this year the team has made 20 or more free throws in a game this season.
- The 63 rebounds and 24 assists are both season highs for the Abbey.
- Riley James had six assists for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey had 28 second-chance points compared to just two for Erskine.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will play their final home game of the regular season with a contest against Emmanuel.
- Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. from the Wheeler Center.
