MONROE, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team found itself in a close match with No. 23 Wingate Thursday afternoon at Monroe High School.
The Crusaders put together a strong effort but it was the Bulldogs who came away with the 4-3 win.
Despite getting swept in doubles, Belmont Abbey earned three wins in singles play as
Kaitlin Nguyen,
Hanley Riner and
Mackenzie McCarthy all won at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles, respectively. All three wins came in three-set victories.
With Thursday's results, Belmont Abbey is 0-2 on the season while Wingate is 3-0.

Belmont Abbey is scheduled to host Augusta in a doubleheader next Friday at the Reidy Tennis Center.
