ROCK HILL, S.C. -- For the second time this season, Belmont Abbey has swept the We Played South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Players of the Week, the league office announced today.
Freshman
Valerie De Bruin was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while
Lily Willard collected the defensive honor.
Crusaders
Isabella Hite and
Sarah Schumacher won the awards on Sept. 21.
De Bruin, a freshman midfielder from Haarlem, Netherlands, scored three goals as Belmont Abbey posted a pair of conference victories last week. She opened the week by scoring twice in the Crusaders' 4-1 victory over Wingate before netting the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at Lander. De Bruin finished the week with six points on seven shots, including four shots on goal, while scoring the first three goals of her collegiate career.
Willard, a redshirt senior goalkeeper from Coatesville, Pa., helped lead Belmont Abbey to a 2-0 shutout victory over Lander. She played all 60 minutes in goal and stopped all seven shots on goal she faced, finishing the match with seven saves and a 1.000 save percentage.
Belmont Abbey returns to action on Wednesday at home against Converse.
