BELMONT, N.C. -- Freshman
Kate Jaques scored her first career goal with 1:03 remaining in the game, lifting Belmont Abbey to a 2-1 Homecoming victory over Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The dramatics lifted the Crusaders to 5-2-3 overall and 4-1-3 in league play, while the Warriors fall to 4-6-1, 2-4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams scored in the first seven minutes before batting through heavy rains for a majority of the contest. Caroline Roche headed home a Haley Long corner just 2:08 into the game, before SWU answered less than five minutes later.
- Jaques found the top left corner for the deciding goal with Long gaining her second assist of the day,
- Belmont Abbey outshot Southern Wesleyan 21-7 overall, but only 7-4 on goal. Corner kicks were decidedly in favor of the Crusaders as well, 13-5.
- Rylie Dougherty made three saves in goal for the Abbey.
