GREENVILLE, S.C. — Belmont Abbey freshman forward
Brielle George added another accolade to her freshman season as she was named the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week from the league office Monday.
George earned the award after helping the Crusaders to two wins this week over Ferrum and Chowan. She was also named the Conference Freshman of the Month earlier this month.
She tallied her fifth double-double of the season in the 67-38 win over the Panthers Tuesday, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds (nine defensive). She also had a blocked shot in the contest. Against Chowan, she finished with eight points, eight rebounds, another blocked shot and three steals in the 63-56 win over the Hawks Saturday.
She is the second Crusader to win a player of the week award after
Riley James earned the award in consecutive weeks in December.
The Crusaders begin a busy week on the road with a Monday matinee against Mount Olive at 3 p.m. followed by a contest at Emmanuel at 5 p.m. Thursday.
