HICKORY, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team went on the road for the first time in the 2025 season to face Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday evening at the Moretz Athletic Complex.
In the first completed match of the season, the Crusaders fell 4-0 to the Bears.
The contest marked the first completed game for Belmont Abbey after Thursday's contest against Newberry was suspended with the Abbey 0-1. Lenoir-Rhyne is 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trent McConnaughey made two of his seven saves early in the contest.
- Lenoir-Rhyne got on the board with the first goal of the contest in the fifth minute.
- Marcos Frias took the first shot of the match for Belmont Abbey in the first half followed quickly by a shot from Sam Atherton.
- The Bears added another goal late in the first half.
- Daniel Alvarenga took both shots on goal in the second half for the Crusaders.
- Lenoir-Rhyne scored two more goals in the second half to cap the scoring.
