BELMONT, N.C. — Caleb Burr hit two home runs but the Belmont Abbey baseball team saw its 2025 season come to an end in an 8-2 loss to North Georgia in an elimination game Saturday at Abbey Yard.
Saturday's contest also marked the first time that Belmont Abbey had faced North Georgia.
Burr finished with his third multi-home run game of the season and finishes the year with 16 home runs and 62 runs batted in.
Carter DuHaime added two hits as well for the Crusaders.
Belmont Abbey closes its season with a 41-17 overall record, matching a program-best win total for the second time in the last three seasons. It is the third time in program history to reach 41 wins to include the 2008 and 2023 seasons.
North Georgia improved to 41-16 and advanced to the Regional Final against Lenoir-Rhyne later Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Todd Velotta got the first hit of the day with a one-out single in the top of the first inning.
- North Georgia got on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
- The Nighthawks added three more runs in the third inning before Burr's home run in the top of the fourth inning.
- After a two-run home run from UNG in the fourth, Belmont Abbey added the other run with Burr's lead-off home run in the sixth inning.
- Drew Stegura took the loss but did finish with seven strikeouts over seven innings of work. He threw a career high 128 pitches in the contest.
- The Nighthawks added two runs in the eighth off an RBI single and sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
