Cassidy, Carlino Tally Five-Point Games at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Triniti Cassidy and Olivia Carlino each finished with five-point games as the Crusaders went on the road to battle Young Harris Saturday afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

Despite the strong offensive output from both, the Crusaders suffered their first conference loss of the season in a 19-17 contest in favor of the Mountain Lions.

Cassidy finished with five goals on the day, the fourth time she's reached that mark this season. Carlino had three goals and two assists for the Abbey.

With Saturday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 6-6 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders got off to a fast start thanks to an early 4-1 lead.
  • Abbey McCarthy tallied the first goal while Cassidy and Carlino got on the scoresheet with a goal followed by another goal from Addyson Greenspan.
  • Cassidy added a second goal in the quarter as Belmont Abbey took a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Crusaders led by three goals at 9-6 before Young Harris rallied to tie the game at 9-9 at halftime.
  • The Mountain Lions scored the first four goals of the second half but Belmont Abbey responded with four of the next scores to get back with 14-13.
  • Carlino, Greenspan, Cassidy and Katelyn Miller all tallied goals in the fourth quarter but the Crusaders were unable to complete the rally.
  • Summer Eddinger finished with seven saves in the contest.
  • Belmont Abbey outshot Young Harris 43-34 and 33-26 in shots on goal.
  • The Crusaders finished with 18 ground balls, including five from Greenspan.  
  • Emerson Sheyda, Olivia Ritchie scored goals while Grace Ridge tallied an assist.

UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey heads on the road to face Barton at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Wilson, N.C.
  • The game will officially count as a nonconference game in the conference standings.
