SUMTER, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team earned a spot in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a pair of victories at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
The Crusaders defeated Converse 4-0 in the completion of the first round match that was suspended due to inclement weather and followed that up with a 4-2 victory over No. 4 seed Mount Olive in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
Against the Valkyries, the Crusaders took two of the three doubles matches and won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to take the match.
Alexis Burkhalter earned wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles to help the Abbey.
Against the Trojans, Belmont Abbey had to rally after dropping the doubles point.

Mackenzie McCarthy earned wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. It was
Leilany Sanchez who earned the clinching point at No. 6 to punch Belmont Abbey's ticket into the semifinals.
The Crusaders improve to 16-17 overall with the two wins.
