Olivia Carlino tallied five points each and the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team used a second quarter surge to defeat No. 4 seed
Young Harris in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament Friday afternoon at Mount Olive's Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
The Crusaders are back in the title game for the second time in three years as the team held the Mountain Lions to just two goals in the first half.
Summer Eddinger made six saves in the win and the Crusaders improved to 9-8 with the win. Young Harris closes its season with an 11-7 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders came out firing early by taking 11 shots compared to just two for the Mountain Lions.
- Greenspan, Carlino and Grace Ridge accounted for the first three goals of the game for Belmont Abbey before Young Harris got on the board.
- Triniti Cassidy got her first goal of the game in the early seconds of the second quarter.
- Young Harris answered quickly but Belmont Abbey responded with four unanswered goals to close the first half.
- Two of those goals came from Katelyn Miller while Greenspan and Abbey McCarthy tallied the other goals.
- Greenspan scored two of the three Abbey goals in the third quarter as the Crusaders held an 11-6 lead entering the final 15 minutes.
- Young Harris got back within four goals but Belmont Abbey's 4-1 run in 2:28 of game action helped seal the game.
- Cassidy had a goal and two assists in the frame while Carlino scored twice.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 34 ground balls led by five from Eddinger and four each from Carlino, Greenspan and Miller.
- Caitlyn Marone led Belmont Abbey with three caused turnovers.
- Greenspan and Kacey Kubarewicz had six draw controls for the Crusaders while Cassidy had five.
