BELMONT, N.C. — Olivia Carlino tallied a season-best 11 points and
Triniti Cassidy and
Abbey McCarthy scored four goals each as Belmont Abbey defeated Shorter 23-5 in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Carlino finished with three goals and a career-high eight assists as she and four other Crusaders were honored as part of a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
Kacey Kubarewicz,
Grace Ridge, Sofia Grill and
Elizabeth Hommel were honored as part of the festivities.
With the senior day win, Belmont Abbey improves to 7-7 overall and 6-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Shorter is now 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first six goals from Belmont Abbey were scored by six different Crusaders.
- McCarthy, Emerson Sheyda, Addyson Greenspan, Olivia Ritchie and Cassidy tallied goals in the opening quarter for Belmont Abbey while Carlino scored her first goal to open the second quarter.
- After Shorter got its second goal of the game, Belmont Abbey closed the half with six unanswered goals to take a 13-2 lead at halftime.
- Hannah Hizey scored her first two goals of the season in the second half.
- McCarthy's four goals is a career high for a single game.
- Sheyda recorded her first career hat trick while Ritchie tallied her second.
- The Crusaders committed just four turnovers on the day and had nine caused turnovers in the win while Cassidy, Caitlyn Marone and Greenspan caused two turnovers each.
- Kubarewicz led the team with eight draw controls and three ground balls.
- Summer Eddinger made four saves in the win.
- The 23 goals were one shy of Belmont Abbey's season high.
