BELMONT, N.C. -- Trinity Cassidy tied a career-high with five goals, including two during a decisive second quarter, leading Belmont Abbey to a 17-8 victory over Gannon in women's lacrosse action Saturday at Alumni Field. The Crusaders turned a 3-2 deficit after 15 minutes into an 8-4 lead by intermission with a 6-1 advantage that included four unanswered goals.
With the win, The Abbey improves to 3-4 on the season, while the Golden Knights fall to 1-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cassidy matched her scoring output achieved against North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan last year.
- Katelyn Miller, Olivia Carlino and Olivia Ritchie tallied two goals each, while six others found the net once.
- Miller and Carlino also dished out two assists each to reach four points.
- Cassidy, Kacey Kubarewicz and Summer Eddinger led the team in ground balls, while Kubarewicz won a team-high eight draw controls.
- Eddinger needed to make just four saves in earning the win in goal.
- Belmont Abbey held a 41-17 advantage on shots, including 27-12 on goal, and won 20 of 29 draws.
- In addition to the second-period barrage, the Crusaders scored all five fourth-quarter goals.
