NEWBERRY, S.C. — Triniti Cassidy and
Olivia Carlino tallied four points each as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team took on Newberry Wednesday afternoon at Setzler Field.
Both of them were a group of five Crusaders with multiple goals on the day but it was the Wolves who came away with the 19-15 victory over the Abbey. Carlino was the leading scorer for the Abbey with four goals while Cassidy had three goals and an assist.
With Wednesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 2-4 on the season while Newberry is 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to quick starts with a goal each in the span of four minutes of play.
- Katelyn Miller scored two goals in the opening quarter to help the Crusaders to a 4-3 lead.
- Each team had a run of three unanswered goals in the second quarter as both teams entered halftime tied at 9-all.
- Carlino and Yianna Giannoulis scored the opening goals of the second half to help the Crusaders take an 11-9 lead. Giannoulis' goal was the first of her collegiate career.
- Newberry took control of the game with a run of six unanswered goals spanning between the third and fourth quarters.
- Addyson Greenspan, Miller and Abbey McCarthy were the other Crusaders who tallied two goals each for Belmont Abbey.
- Belmont Abbey converted six free-position opportunities.
- Cassidy led the Abbey with nine draw controls while Kacey Kubarewicz had six.
- Summer Eddinger made eight saves in goal.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders return home to begin another three-game homestand starting on Saturday as they host Gannon.
- The opening draw is scheduled for a 12 noon start at Alumni Field.
