BELMONT, N.C. -- Sage Farmer had two hits in each game of Friday's Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader with Mount Olive, but the Trojans came away with two victories, 6-3 and 7-0 over Belmont Abbey.
With the results, the Crusaders fall to 16-16 overall and 3-7 in league play, while UMO improves to 19-13, 9-3.
THE OPENER
- Farmer went 2-for-4 with a run scored. One of her hits was a seventh-inning double.
- McKenna Meadors and Vicky Lott both had solo home runs, while Sami Kirk, Casey Laing and Lily Garnett-Brown had singles.
- Belmont Abbey took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Trojans scored two each in the second and fourth for a 4-1 lead.
- The Crusaders used the two homers to claw back to 4-3 after sixth, but the rally stopped there.
- Meadors threw a complete game, allowing 10 hits and a walk against two strikeouts. She took the loss to fall to 5-2.
THE NIGHTCAP
- All five of The Abbey's hits were singles. Farmer and Meadors each had a pair, while Payton Colbert had the other.
- Maddie Phillips and Colbert earned walks.
- Lilly Hartsell fell to 8-7 with the loss. She allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned) in 5.2 innings pitched,
- The shutout was just the second of the season against the Crusaders.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey continues its eight-game homestand tomorrow when it hosts Francis Marion.
