BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey registered 13 hits in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday, sweep past Lees-McRae 12-8 and 10-5 in Conference Carolinas softball action. The hit totals tied for second-most in a game this season, while the run outputs were the top two in eight league games so far.
With the wins, the Crusaders improve to 16-14 overall and 3-5 in the conference, while the Bobcats fall to 6-23, 0-8.
THE OPENER
- McKenna Meadors hit safely in all three at-bats, driving in a pair of runs, while Ivy Holley and Lily Garnett-Brown each had two hits.
- Trinity Wall and Lauren Huebsch hit back-to-home runs during a six-run third inning. Wall's came with two runners on base and made the score 9-3.
- After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Crusaders scored 11 unanswered runs before Lees-McRae rallied. The Bobcats scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to closed to within 11-8, but got no closer
- Lilly Hartsell earned the win to improve to 8-6. She scattered seven hits and two walks against three strikeouts.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Casey Laing extended her hitting streak to seven games with a 3-for-3 effort. She also scored twice.
- Peyton Colbert and Huebsch each had two hits, while six others also joined the hit parade.
- Colbert and Garnett-Brown drove in three runs each.
- After three runs by the Bobcats in the top of the third, the Crusaders tied the score in the fifth and exploded for five in the sixth, highlighted by Colbert's three-run homer to right center.
- McKenna Meadors threw a complete-game to improve to 5-1. She walked one and struck out two.
