BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team celebrated its senior class with three matches Saturday at the Reidy Tennis Center.
The Crusaders took on Chowan in the morning match and followed that with a doubleheader against Averett.
Belmont Abbey earned a 6-1 win over the Hawks while dropping both matches against the Cougars by scores of 4-3 and 6-1.
Nine seniors:
Lily Aranyos,
Daniella Galeano,
Yaritza Gonzalez,
Frankee Hendricks,
Paola Socarras,
Anna Steiner,
Elizabeth Vollmin,
Alexus Govert and
Anna Li were all honored in a pre-match ceremony.
In the match against Chowan, the Crusaders swept the doubles point and took five of six singles matches.
Mackenzie McCarthy,
Elizabeth Vollmin and
Alexis Burkhalter all earned wins in both singles and doubles play.
In the afternoon matches against the Cougars. the Crusaders took the doubles point before the Cougars rallied to earn the win. In the nightcap, Averett took eight of nine matches for the win.
Following Saturday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 8-15 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
