Four Crusaders Set or Match Career-Best Scoring Totals in Victory at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. — Four Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse players either set or matched career-best scoring totals as the Crusaders defeated Chowan 23-3 Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Katelyn Miller matched her career high with five goals to lead the Abbey while freshmen Addyson Greenspan and Olivia Ritchie finished with four goals each. Additionally, Abbey McCarthy matched her career high with three goals in the victory.

Miller scored four of her five goals in the first quarter as part of an 8-0 run in the first quarter to start the game for the Crusaders. Summer Eddinger made two saves in goal as the Abbey picked up its fourth straight win.

With Saturday's win, Belmont Abbey is now 6-4 overall and 4-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan is now 0-5 overall, 0-2 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miller scored three of the first five goals for the Abbey with Abbey McCarthy accounting for the other two.
  • Olivia Carlino had two assists early for the Cruasders.
  • Belmont Abbey tallied 11 unanswered goals before Chowan scored its first goal.
  • Olivia Ritchie also matched her career high in goals with four, including two in the first half.
  • Yianna Ginannoulis scored her third goal of the season and the second in as many games to open the second half.
  • Addyson Greenspan finished with four goals on the day, including two in the second half where the Crusaders were a woman down.
  • McCarthy and Triniti Cassidy also scored three goals each and were two of eight Crusaders with multi-point games.
  • Kacey Kubarewicz finished with seven draw controls and had a goal and assist in the wine.
  • Scout Chaffin finished with four ground balls and caused three turnovers. The Crusaders finished with 15 caused turnovers and only turned the ball over twice in the contest.
  • The Crusaders had a decisive 39-6 advantage in shots and 36-4 in shots on goal.

  • The Crusaders return home for a non-conference contest with Alabama-Huntsville on Wednesday.
