BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team began a busy weekend with a split of a pair of matches Friday at the Reidy Tennis Center.
The Crusaders defeated Johnson & Wales 6-1 in the morning match while dropping a close 4-3 decision to Barton in the Conference Carolinas opener for the Abbey.
In the opening match, Belmont Abbey swept the doubles matches and won five of six in singles play.
Anna Steiner and
Alexus Govert teamed up to win in No. 3 doubles and won their respective singles matches in the opener.
In the afternoon match against the Bulldogs,
Alexis Burkhalter did the same as she helped the Crusaders earn the doubles point by rallying to win a 7-6 (5) decision with
Paola Socarras. She went on to win in singles play as well.
Mackenzie McCarthy did the same as well for the Crusaders.
Following Friday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 7-13 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will have a busy Saturday as the team will play three matches.
- Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by a doubleheader against Averett starting at 2:30 p.m.
- Additionally, the team will celebrate its seniors in a pre-match Senior Day ceremony.
