Wilson’s Walk-Off Lifts Abbey Baseball Past Augusta

BELMONT, N.C. — Josh Wilson hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Belmont Abbey baseball team earned a 5-4 win over Augusta Wednesday evening at Abbey Yard.

Wilson's winning hit scored Todd Velottta, who led off the inning with a double to left-center field. Velotta had two hits on the day for the Abbey as well in the win.

Ethan Wilson put together a strong start on the mound, allowing just one run and two hits in 6.1 innings of work.

It is the third straight win and the second walk-off home win in as many games for the Crusaders, who improve to 18-10 on the season. Augusta falls to 8-20 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Augusta got two runs on the board in the seventh but Ethan Yarbrough struck out the final batter of the inning to keep it a two-run game.
  • The Jaguars scored runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game.
  • Belmont Abbey completed the win starting with the Velotta double followed by Carter DuHaime reaching on a hit by pitch.
  • After a sacrifice bunt from Jack Boyles, that set the stage for Wilson's walk-off in his lone at bat of the game.
