BELMONT, N.C. -- Olivia Carlino and Trinity Cassidy scored two goals each, but Saint Leo broke open a close game in the second half for an 18-5 victory over Belmont Abbey in women's lacrosse action on Friday. The Lions held a slim 5-4 lead at intermission before a 13-1 run in the final 30 minutes.

The contest served as the season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Freshman Addyson Greenspan scored the other goal for the Crusaders, with Kaitlyn Miller dishing out an assist.
• The Lions outshot The Abbey 38-11 overall and won 20 of 27 draws.
• Summer Eddinger made seven saves and grabbed four ground balls, sharing the team lead in the category with Cassidy.
• Cassidy and Carlino tallied goals in the first quarter as The Abbey tied the game at 1-1 and 2-2. Both also scored in the second as the score was even at 4 with 8:02 remaining in the quarter.
