WINGATE, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team returned to action as the Crusaders faced Wingate Wednesday afternoon at Cuddy Arena.
Belmont Abbey was locked in a close battle early but a hot-shooting Bulldogs team was the difference as the Crusaders fell 86-51.
The defeat saw the Abbey's seven-game winning streak come to an end as the Crusaders are now 9-2 on the season. Wingate is 6-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leigha Dennison made the opening basket for the Crusaders, as she finished with a team-high eight points in the contest.
- With the game tied at 12 in the first quarter, Wingate closed the quarter on a 7-1 run.
- Janiah Shular was the leading rebounder for the Abbey with six rebounds to go with seven points.
- The Crusaders were held to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field.
- Belmont Abbey finished with a season-low 15 turnovers.
- Wingate finished the game shooting just over 50 percent from the field, (50.8 percent) and making 10 3-pointers in the contest.
