SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team saw its season come to an end as the No. 8 seed Crusaders fell to top-seed Catawba 3-1 Friday afternoon in the first round of the Southeast Regional Friday afternoon at Frock Field.
Ryleigh Dougherty made a career-high 12 saves in the contest, six in each half.
Samantha Smith scored her first goal of the season in the second half of the contest as the match featured all four goals coming after halftime.
The Crusaders finish its 2025 campaign with a 16-5-1 record after making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2014 season. Catawba is now 17-0-4 and will face No. 5 seed Lander at 3 p.m. Sunday in the second round.

- Ryleigh Dougherty made two of her six first half saves in the first minute of the match.
- Anna Richárd took Belmont Abbey's first shot of the match in the 18th minute.
- Jadyn Radestock accounted for the other shot in the 29th minute.
- The Indians held an 11-2 advantage in shots in the first half and had 62 percent of possession.
- Catawba's Morgan Delair got on the board in the 48th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Smith took the first shot on goal of the match for the Crusaders in the 54th minute. She led the team with four shots on the day.
- Smith got the equalizer just a few moments later by taking advantage of a Catawba defensive miscue.
- Catawba's Bree Ehmer scored the first of her two goals in the 76th minute and on a rebound off a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
- Belmont Abbey took 11 shots in the match, four on goal, and had two corner kicks.
