INDIANAPOLIS— The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team has been selected as the No. 8 seed in the Southeast Regional as the Division II Women's Soccer Selection Committee unveiled the full bracket Monday night.
The Crusaders will begin its regional action against No. 1 seed Catawba Friday in Salisbury, N.C. while the No. 4 seed Francis Marion and No. 5 seed Lander will make up the other match set to take place at Catawba's Frock Field. The two winners will play at 3 p.m. Sunday. On top of being the No. 1 seed, Catawba is the No. 2 team in the nation and won the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) title Sunday.
Belmont Abbey finished 16-4-1 after capturing the Conference Carolinas Tournament title with a 2-1 victory over Francis Marion on Sunday afternoon and earning the autoumatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It is the first conference tournament title since 2014, where they lost 4-1 to North Georgia in the opening round of the regional. It is the ninth overall appearance for the Abbey in the NCAA Tournament and the third under head coach
Mike Lynch.
No. 2 seed North Georgia, No. 7 Anderson, No. 3 Columbus State and No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne are the other teams in the regional with games scheduled to be this weekend in Dahlonega, Ga.
The field of 56 will open play Friday with second-round matches set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 23. The games will be on campus composed of two sites per region.
The winning teams of each regional will advance to the third round at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, Nov. 30. From there, the winners of the third round game will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Deb. 6. The final four teams will then advance to the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship, which takes place December 11-13 at Weidner Field at Colorado Springs, Colo.
