WILSON, N.C. — Anna Richárd tallied a goal and an assist and the Belmont Abbey got two late second-half goals as the Crusaders pulled away for a 4-1 win over Barton Friday evening at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Four different Crusaders tallied goals while the team added three assists to secure the fourth win in a row. It is the also the third time in the last four matches that the Abbey has scored four goals in a match.
Belmont Abbey improves to 11-4-1 overall and 9-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Barton is now 4-10 overall, 3-8 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey started off fast thanks to Richárd's eighth goal of the season in the first minute of the match.
- The Crusaders took 10 shots in the first half and limited the Bulldogs to just three shots in the frame.
- Francesca Highton scored her second goal as a Crusader when she scored off a corner kick in the 59th minute. Richárd was credited with the assist.
- Barton got back within a goal in the 77th minute with Felicia Svensson's goal.
- The Crusaders quickly put the match away thanks to two goals in the span of less than two minutes.
- Haley Long got a goal in the 81st minute while Addie Galek capped the scoring in the 83rd minute.
- Maris Toppin and Sabrina Cunha were credited with assists on their respective goals.
- Ryleigh Dougherty finished with two saves in goal.
- The Crusaders finished with a 25-6 advantage in shots.
- Belmont Abbey had four corner kicks while Barton finished without a corner.
- Friday's win marked the third straight year that Belmont Abbey has won 11 or more matches in a season.
