Abbey Earns Second Straight Victory over LMU

BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey field hockey team earned its second win over Lincoln Memorial in the last four days thanks to a 2-0 victory over the Railsplitters Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The game was officially a nonconference contest for both teams.

Margaret Malcolm scored her third goal of the season while Isabel Stankiewicz scored her first tally of the season in the victory. Additionally, the Crusaders did not allow a shot from LMU as Lily Willard and Annmarie Mullen combined for the shutout.

With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 7-4 on the season while Lincoln Memorial is now 4-9 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams were locked in a defensive battle early as the Crusaders took just one shot in the opening quarter from Sarah Schumacher.
  • The Crusaders got on the board early in the second quarter thanks to Malcolm's goal on the assist from Chloe Kiser.
  • Belmont Abbey's attack picked up in the second quarter with five shots, four on goal.
  • Stankiewicz extended the Abbey lead as she scored on an assist from Eileen Schwab.
  • The Crusaders finished with 14 shots, seven on goal and did not allow a shot from LMU.
  • Belmont Abbey had 10 penalty corners.

  • The Crusaders host Coker on Senior Day in a South Atlantic Conference contest at 2 p.m. Saturday back at Alumni Field.
