WILSON, N.C. --
Adison Yoder allowed just one run in five innings and drove in the tying run on a fifth-inning single, leading Belmont Abbey to a split of a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader at Barton Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs took the opener 2-1, while the Crusaders won the nightcap by the same score.
With the results, The Abbey improves to 14-13 overall and 6-8 in league play, while Barton falls to 19-17, 8-6.
THE OPENER
- Hallie Mele went 3-for-3 with a walk from her leadoff spot. She drove in the Crusaders' only run on a triple in the fifth.
- Sage Farmer and Dorothy Wunderlich had The Abbey's other two hits.
- Barton tied the game in the sixth, then plated an unearned run in the seventh for the victory.
- McKenna Meadors (2-5) took the loss despite retiring three straight batters before an error and the game-winning triple.
- Jenna Goldey started and scattered seven hits over 5.1 innings. She struck out three against one walk.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Barton scored in the first and held the lead until the fifth, when Yoder singled to center with runners on second and third. Farmer scored on the hit, while Trinity Wall came home on an error in the outfield.
- Farmer finished with two hits, while Maddie Phillips also tallied a pair of singles.
- Mele, Foster Sharpe and Mackenzie Allison also had hits.
- Yoder (6-5) pitched five strong innings, scattering six hits and a walk, while striking out two. Meadors earned her first save of the season, allowing just one hit over two innings.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey returns home to face UNC Pembroke on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
- The doubleheader was originally scheduled for March 15, but postponed by rain.
