Crusaders Pull Away For Victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in Home Finale

BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team closed out its 2024 home schedule on a strong note thanks to a 14-4 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.
 
The Crusaders finished with 10 different players scoring a goal highlighted by a hat trick from Triniti Cassidy. Abbey McCarthy and Kacey Kubarewicz also had two goals each. A
 
Additionally, The Abbey held the Bears to just one goal in the second half as Summer Eddinger made 13 saves to lead the defensive effort.
 
Belmont Abbey earned its 10th win of the season and are 10-5 overall. Lenoir-Rhyne is 3-10.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cassidy got the Crusaders on the board early with her first goal less than a minute in to the contest.
  • After Lenoir-Rhyne pulled even with the first, Belmont Abbey went on a run of six unanswered goals.
  • The run included two goals from Cassidy and three woman-up goals in that stretch.
  • Kubarewicz scored both of her goals after halftime, scoring first in both the third and fourth quarter for the Crusaders.
  • Kami Sauceda finished with three points as well for the Abbey with a goal and two assists.
  • The Crusaders scored seven goals in the second half before Lenoir-Rhyne got its lone goal in the final seconds of the contest.
  • Belmont Abbey had nine caused turnovers including two each from Cassidy, Eddinger and Elizabeth Hommel.
  • The Crusaders had 20 ground balls with five from Eddinger and three from Hommel.
  • Ella Carlino made her fourth save of the season when she entered the game late in the contest.
  • The Abbey had a 14-10 advantage in draw controls. Emma Pherson led the team with four.
 
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey plays its final Conference Carolinas game of the regular season when it travels to Southern Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Crusaders have a chance to clinch a first-round bye in the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a win.
