Three-Peat! Men’s Tennis Captures Third Straight Tournament Title

SUMTER, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team captured its third straight Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship thanks to a 4-0 win over No. 4 seed Mount Olive Sunday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

The No. 3 seed Crusaders defeated the No. 4 seed Trojans for the second time in just over a week to earn the title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will be the sixth appearance in program history and the second time that the Abbey has made the tournament three straight years. The other occurrence happened between 1999 and 2001 since moving up to Division II.

Belmont Abbey took the doubles point thanks to victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Nicholas Cary and Christian Winstead earned a 7-5 win over Lenn Hoffman and Bram Poel at No. 2 while Tim Stemler and Noelle Andrey Ampong earned a 6-0 win over UMO's Adam Ibrahim and Niklas Greenefeldt.

As the two teams moved on to singles, Tim Stemler and Andres Golindano earned straight-set victories at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Cary earned the championship point with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory over Greenefeldt in No. 3 singles.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Christian Winstead and Tim Stemler were named the tournament team while Cary was named the tournament's most valuable player.
