Men’s Tennis Closes Season at NCAA Southeast Regional

AUBURN, Ala. — The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team saw its season come to a close at the NCAA Southeast Regional against No. 2 seed Columbus State Monday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

The Crusaders battled closely against the Cougars in doubles play before Columbus State won four singles matches to earn a 5-0 victory.

The match had been moved indoors due to inclement weather in the area. It was the third straight year that Belmont Abbey and Columbus State had played each other in the regional.

After Columbus State earned a win in No. 1 doubles, the Crusaders nearly rallied to take the doubles point after the No. 2 and No. 3 matches were within a point of each other. Tim Stemler was leading his match in No. 4 singles before the Cougars clinched the match.

Columbus State is 13-7 and advances to face the winner of the North Georgia-Augusta match scheduled

Belmont Abbey concludes the season with a 25-19 overall record after making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
