BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey Softball wrapped up its 2024 home schedule on Wednesday afternoon with a sweep of Converse in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Crusader Field. The Crusaders won the opener 3-0, then took the second game 14-3 in five innings.
With the wins, The Abbey improves to 21-14 overall and 13-9 in league play, while the Valkyries fall to 17-35, 6-16. The wins virtually guarantee a place in the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Duncan, S.C. next weekend.
THE OPENER
- Mackenzie Allison's bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth inning provided all the runs in the game. The teams had battled through five scoreless innings with each getting just two hits over that span.

- After an out, Allison drilled a pitch to the wall in center for a 3-0 lead. The RBIs gave her 11 total in the last two games.
- Pon and Yoder had the team's first two hits.
- Yoder (8-5) picked up the win with the complete game shutout. She allowed three hits and a walk against four strikeouts.
