BELMONT, N.C. — Jake Andriole finished with three hits as he was one of five Belmont Abbey baseball players to tally multiple hits against Wingate Tuesday evening at Abbey Yard.
The Crusaders took an early lead but it was the Bulldogs who came away with the 6-4 victory in the final home nonconference game of the regular season for the Abbey.
Caleb Burr was one of the five Crusaders who had multiple hits, including his team-best eighth home run of the season.
Belmont Abbey is now 21-19 on the year while Wingate is 25-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spencer Cipro pitched four scoreless innings for the Crusaders in his start.
- The Abbey got on the board in the third when Garrett Browder drove in Connor Powell with a single. Powell had reached on an error earlier in the inning.
- Powell drove in another run with an RBI single in the fourth.
- Wingate got on the board in the fifth but the Crusaders added two more runs in the bottom of the inning with Burr's home run and an RBI walk from Carter Bass with the bases loaded.
- The Bulldogs took the lead in the sixth thanks to a pair of two-run doubles.
- Belmont Abbey had two runners on base in each of the final two innings but were unable to get any closer.
- Thomas Paxton took the loss for the Abbey.

- Belmont Abbey heads on the road for a key Conference Carolinas series at Mount Olive beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
