Crusaders Close Out Florida Trip at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. — Seven Crusaders scored goals, including the first career goal from Hannah Hizey as the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team closed out its Florida trip at Saint Leo Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders and Lions were locked in a close battle in the first half but a 10-goal third quarter for the Lions helped them pull away for a 23-8 victory over The Abbey.

Emma Pherson led the Crusaders with a pair of goals while Summer Eddinger had eight ground balls.

With Saturday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 5-4 on the season. Saint Leo is now 3-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Saint Leo scored an opening goal, the Crusaders pulled even with Katelyn Miller's goal on an assist from Triniti Cassidy.
  • The Lions went up 3-1 before Pherson scored the first of her two goals midway through the opening quarter.
  • Reilly McCarthy scored the third goal of the quarter for The Abbey.
  • Pherson and Cassidy scored the first two goals of the second quarter to pull even at 5-5 early in the period.
  • Hizey's goal came with 6:09 left in the first half.
  • Hailey Carroll scored the lone goal of the third quarter for the Crusaders via a Miller assist.
  • Haley Adamo scored on a free-position shot in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Crusaders.
  • Eddinger finished with 13 saves on the day.
  • Cassidy and Kacey Kubarewicz finished with two caused turnovers.
  • Faith Piser led with five draw controls.

UP NEXT
The Crusaders will play their next three contests at home starting Wednesday against Barton at 4 p.m. at Alumni Field.
