BELMONT, N.C. --
Joseph Morris tallied 19 assists and eight digs, while
Zach Puentes added eight kills, but 10th-ranked Pepperdine hit .333 as a team to earn a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20) men's volleyball victory over Belmont Abbey at the Wheeler Center.
The result snapped a seven-game winning streak by the Crusaders (11-3), while the Waves improve to 13-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morris added three kills on four attempts for a .750 hitting percentage, while Ethan Rehmann had five kills on seven tries to hit .714. The junior middle also totaled two block assists.
- As a team, The Abbey hit .138 with 25 kills and 13 errors on 87 swings.
- In the opening set, BAC trailed 6-1 early by responded to even the score at 13. However, Pepperdine scored four straight points and 12 of the 15 to earn a 25-16 win.
- The second set saw the waves with a slim margin of 9-7 before four straight points. It led to a 21-13 advantage later in the set although The Abbey rallied to within six at 23-17.
- The final set followed a similar script at the Waves tallied six straight points off a 10-8 lead. The Abbey scored five in a row to make the score 16-13, but Pepperdine was able to close off the set 25-20.
UP NEXT
- After a week off, Belmont Abbey resumes its four-game homestand next weekend.
- The Crusaders host Tusculum next Friday and Charleston next Saturday in non-conference action.
