Darius Kane posted his first career double-double and three other players reached double figures, but No. 4 seed Francis Marion pulled away from Belmont Abbey in the second half for a 82-66 victory in the second round of the Conference Carolinas men's basketball tournament Tuesday evening.
The Crusaders complete the 2023-24 season with a 12-18 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kane scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. He made four field goals and five of his six free throws.
- Mason Taylor and DJ Holloway led the Crusaders with 15 points each, while Wade Jackson added 12 points.
- The Abbey trailed 60-56 with 7:09 to play, but the Patriots scored eight straight points to push the lead back to double digits.
- Belmont Abbey held a 35-34 advantage on the boards, but had four more turnovers (16-12).
- After shooting 46.2 percent in the opening period, the Crusaders converted to 31.4 percent after intermission.
- Belmont Abbey hit just 2-of-21 from three-point range, establishing new season lows for shots made and percentage.
