BELMONT, N.C. — Connor Tucker finished with four hits, including his third home run of the season, as the Belmont Abbey baseball team hosted Catawba Tuesday at Abbey Yard.
The Crusaders reached 10 hits on the day but it was the Indians who broke through with a 14-5 victory over the Abbey.
It was the first game for the Crusaders since the February 24th doubleheader against Barton.
Catawba is now 16-6 on the season while Belmont Abbey is 11-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams scored in the first inning as Catawba hit a home run while Joe Whitaker drove in Connor Powell on a sacrifice fly.
- The two exchanged two-run innings in the third with all the scoring coming via home runs.
- After a two-run home run from Catawba, Tucker and Garrett Browder hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game at 3-3.
- Catawba took the lead in the fourth with a two-run inning.
- Belmont Abbey had the bases loaded in the fourth but were unable to bring runners across.
- Tucker accounted for the other two runs batted in for the Crusaders with a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth inning.
- Catawba broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning.
- Seth Edgerton recorded a scoreless ninth inning in relief for the Crusaders.
- Connor Powell and Jack Boyles each had two hits for the Crusaders.
