BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team took to the field for the first time in 2024 to face Limestone in the season opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Three freshmen scored goals in their collegiate debut for the Crusaders but it was the Saints who came away with the 21-5 victory over the Abbey.

Katelyn Miller, Abbey McCarthy and Triniti Cassidy accounted for four of the five goals for the contest as part of seven freshmen who made their first appearance for Belmont Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Cassidy got the Crusaders on the board with her goal just 38 seconds into the contest. Haley Adamo was credited with the assist.
• Miller scored the first of her two goals in the first quarter. Hailey Carroll assisted on her goal and scored as well in the game for The Abbey.
• Emma Pherson added an assist on Miller's second goal of the first half.
• Abbey McCarthy's goal came on a free-position shot in the fourth quarter.
• Kami Sauceda had two caused turnovers in her collegiate debut.
• Summer Eddinger finished with 14 saves in goal for The Abbey.
