Crusaders Pull Away For 19-7 Victory at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. — Six Crusaders scored multiple goals and Summer Eddinger finished with double-digit saves as Belmont Abbey defeated Catawba 19-7 in a women's lacrosse nonconference game Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium.
 
Katelyn Miller led the offensive attack for The Abbey, finishing with five goals on the afternoon. Haley Adamo recorded her third career hat trick while Hailey Carroll was one of four Crusaders who had two goals on the day. She also finished with a team-best three assists.
 
Abbey McCarthy, Grace Ridge and Triniti Cassidy were the other Crusaders who finished with two goals on the day.
 
Eddinger made 15 saves on the afternoon, the second-most of her career.
 
Belmont Abbey improved to 1-1 on the season while Catawba is now 0-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders scored first for the second straight match when McCarthy capitalized on an extra-man opportunity just over two minutes into the contest.
  • Catawba answered with two straight goals but The Abbey responded with three straight goals from Adamo, Faith Piser and Ridge to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • Both teams scored goals within the first five minutes of the second quarter but the Crusaders began to pull away with a run of three straight goals in 1:28.
  • Miller's goal late in the second quarter gave The Abbey a 9-4 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Crusaders scored the first four goals of the second half, including the first collegiate goal from Erin Chartier.
  • The Abbey outscored the Indians 6-1 in the fourth quarter to cement the victory.
  • The Crusaders out-shot the Indians 37-28 and also had a 30-22 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Belmont Abbey also finished with 14 draw controls, led by five from Emma Pherson.
  • The Crusaders caused 11 turnovers with nine different players.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with eight assists that included the first career assist from Scout Chaffin.
  • The Abbey had 24 ground balls, led by four from Caitlyn Marone.
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey hosts Montevallo at 6 p.m. next Friday at Alumni Field.
  • It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
