Box Score BELMONT, N.C. --
Trinity Wall three hits as part of an eight-hit attack but Coker rallied for a 4-3 win over the Belmont Abbey in collegiate softball action Tuesday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended for darkness with the Cobras leading 5-1 in the top of the fifth.
With the result, Belmont Abbey falls to at 5-4, while Coker improves to 6-7.
THE OPENER
- Wall had three singles and stole a base to lead the offensive effort, whileÂ
- Mackenzie Allison recorded a pair of hits, one of which was a double, and drove in a run.
- Sydney Pon, Maddie Phillips and Makenna Meadors also registered hits in the contest.
- The Abbey jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first and held that lead unti the fifth, when Coker scored two.
- Meadors delivered an RBI single in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2, but the potential go-ahead run was thrown out at the plate.
- Coker took the lead for good in the sixth on a hit and an error, although Allison's RBI double in the bottom of the frame closed the gap to 4-3.
- Adison Yoder (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in two innings of relief. Meadors allowed two runs on five hits as the starter, striking out five.
- The game started 47 minutes late as morning rains delayed field preparations.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Coker scored runs in each of the first three innings en route to its 5-1 lead.
- Belmont Abbey manufactured its run in the second to close to within 3-1. Foster Sharpe walked and stole second before Erin Gill singled through the left side two outs later.
- Darkness forced the game to be suspended in the fifth.
