Crusaders Pull Away From Falcons For Second Straight Win

BELMONT, N.C. — Triniti Cassidy scored a career-best four goals while four Crusaders scored multiple goals as Belmont Abbey defeated Montevallo 18-10 Friday evening at Alumni Field.
 
Friday's contest marked the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
 
The Crusaders offense got rolling from the second quarter, finishing with 30 of its 32 shots on goal. Reilly McCarthy and Kacey Kubarewicz each recorded hat tricks for The Abbey. Emma Pherson and Haley Adamo also added two goals for the Crusaders.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 2-1 while Montevallo is now 1-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo scored the first two goals of the contest before Abbey McCarthy got the Crusaders on the board with her goal late in the first quarter.
  • Belmont Abbey surged ahead with five straight goals to begin the second quarter including two from Kubarewicz.
  • Cassiy and Reilly McCarthy each scored as part of a seven-goal second quarter for The Abbey.
  • Scout Chaffin tallied her first career goal in the third quarter.
  • Montevallo got within 12-9 in the fourth quarter but the Crusaders scored six of the final seven goals of the game to seal the win.
  • The Crusaders were impressive on the draw controls, finishing with a 23-8 advantage.
  • Kubarewicz had six draw controls while Emma Pherson had five.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 15 caused turnovers with two each from Cassidy and Caitlyn Marone.
  • Summer Eddinger finished with four saves in goal and led the team with six ground balls.
  • The Crusaders had a 20-16 advantage in ground balls.
