Mackenzie Allison,
Bailey Presley and
Foster Sharpe each had three hits throughout a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, helping Belmont Abbey to a split against Catawba. The Crusaders won the opener 8-4, but dropped the nightcap 12-4 in five innings.
The Abbey now sits at 3-1 on the season, while the Indians stay at .500 with a 5-5 mark.
THE OPENER
- Mackenzie Allison had three hits, including a triple, and also drove in a run.
- Sharpe tallied two of her hits in the contest, an RBI single in the second and a run-scoring double in the seventh.
- Six other players tallied hits, giving the Crusaders 11 as a team.
- After falling behind 2-0 after one and 4-1 after two, the Crusaders posted three runs in each of the next two innings.
- Erin Gill earned her first career win, scattering eight hits over 5.2 innings. Adison Yoder retired all four batters she faced to get the save.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Belmont Abbey scored four runs on three hits, two by Presley and another by Sharpe.
- All four runs came in the third for a 4-1 lead. Presley's RBI single evened the score before an error put the Crusaders ahead. Sharpe capped the scoring with a two-run double.
- The lead lasted until the fifth when the Indians plated nine runs on six hits to end the game early.
- Yoder (1-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over 4.1 innings.
