Crain Records Third Double-Double of Season At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Abigail Crain matched a season-high scoring total and recorded her third double-double of the season as the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team took on Young Harris Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play.
 
Forty minutes was not enough to decide the outcome but Young Harris came away with the 68-66 double overtime victory over the Crusaders.
 
Crain had 26 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and a steal for the Abbey. She was one of three Crusaders to finish in double figures scoring. Catherine Hendershott and Riley James had 14 and 13 points, respectively.
 
The result snapped a 12-game winning streak for the Crusaders, who are now 17-6 overall and 11-2 in league play. The Mountain Lions are 11-12 overall, 7-6 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hendershott and Crain accounted for all 13 points of the first quarter for the Crusaders.
  • James made both the first and last field goals of the second quarter.
  • After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Crusaders rallied and re-gained the lead with 4:14 left in the third quarter on a made basket from Crain.
  • Both teams had chances to win the game in the final minute of regulation but were unable to convert.
  • Young Harris took a 57-56 lead in the first overtime with 54 seconds left before Madison Lusk answered with a made 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to take a two-point lead.
  • The Mountain Lions converted a basket with three seconds left to extend the game.
  • Young Harris scored the first six points of the second overtime but The Abbey responed with a five-point run of its own.
  • The Mountain Lions made three free throws late to seal the win.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 14 steals on the afternoon. Peyton Nation led the way with five steals for the Crusaders.
  • The Crusaders had 15 assists with James leading the way with eight.

  • The Crusaders return home for their penultimate home game of the regular season on Tuesday against Lees-McRae.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Wheeler Center.
